Letter from the Chairman of the Singapore Telephone Board

This was a congratulatory letter addressed to Singapore Telephone Board (STB) employee, Ms Theresa Pereira, on her victory in the Golden Voice Contest in 1956. Written by Loke Wan Tho, Chairman of STB, the letter made reference to Ms Pereira’s performance in Penang where the contest was held, which was a competition in search of the switchboard operator with the best voice. Ms Pereira had joined the company as a telephone operator in 1953 and was eventually promoted to a supervisor before leaving the job in 1959.
