This passport belonged to Mr Basil Clarence Pereira, who had it made in time before his overseas trip. He was sent to England for a training programme by his employer, the Oriental Telephone & Electric Company (OTEC), and left Singapore via the SS Carthage on 6 September 1951. The SS Carthage was part of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company (P&O) fleet, which was one of the prominent shipping companies in the 19th and 20th centuries that offered steamer services for mail, cargo and passengers.
