This is a wooden box used as part of the process of crafting Chinese metal signs that are displayed by clan associations during funerals. Metal signs are also widely used for decorative purposes on hearses or used on backdrops of Seventh Month Festival celebrations. Such signs are also found as part of the altars within Chinese shrines and temples whilst lion dance troupes incorporate the metal signs as part of their drum, suona and gong stands..
