Bobby Chng is a Singaporean designer who transitioned from graphic design in advertising to a fashion designer. He was known as one of the “Magnificent Seven” in Singapore's fashion design circle, which consisted of himself, Kelvin Choo, Peter Kor, Esther Tay, Thomas Wee, Tan Yoong and Celia Loe. He sold his clothes largely in department store such as Isetan, Metro and Tangs. He was best known for his ready-to-wear and menswear collections. This cardigan was bought in Tangs in the late 1980s. The donor, Tia Boon Sim, was attracted to it because of the embroidered detail on its front and sleeves.
