This admittance ticket for a single dance at a cabaret in Great World Amusement Park was once issued to Ronald Leslie Hewitt Smith, Leading Wireman with the Royal Navy posted to Singapore between 1945 to 1946. In the immediate post-war years, the entertainment "worlds" such as Great World, New World and Gay World saw to a resurgence in their activities and offerings, which were mostly interrupted during the Japanese Occupation. Apart from being major sites of attraction for residents of Singapore, these "worlds" also caught the interest of visitors, including Allied soldiers who formed a significant part of the post-war clientele.Smith was initially part of the Landing Craft Tank LCT 947 which took part on D Day operations in Normandy. Subsequently he served on Landing Craft Infantry (Light) LCI(L) 925 in Asia, and arrived with the Christmas flotilla in Singapore in 1945, where he stayed until 1946.
