This is a bank draft for a transaction by the Oversea-Chinese Bank Limited, dated to April 14, 1928. The Oversea-Chinese Bank Limited was the predecessor to the current-day Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) and was first set up in 1919. It was founded by rubber business magnates Lim Nee Soon (1879–1936) and Tan Ean Kiam (1881–1943). The bank had branches in Penang, Rangoon, Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Amoy and Djambi (Sumatra) and mostly handled remittances from Southeast Asia to China, as well as foreign exchange. The chop on the front of the bank draft indicates that the transaction likely took place in Xiamen (Amoy) as the money was to be paid to the Oversea-Chinese Bank Ltd (Amoy).
