This is a membership booklet belonging to a member of the Poon Yue Association (Pan Yu hui guan 番禺会馆). The Poon Yue Association was founded in 1879 at Upper Cross Street by Hoo Ah Kay (1816 - 1880), a well-known community leader from the Whampoa district in Guangdong province. The booklet contained the personal information of the member it belonged to, which would include their name, age, sex, as well as the person who introduced them into the organisation. The booklet also contained the association's charter that dictated its rules and regulations, written in both English and Chinese.
