This is an empty Chinese remittance envelope dated to 1945. More commonly known as qiaopi (侨批), qiaopi was a private mail delivery system established by early Chinese immigrants in the early 19th century to deliver money and family letters to their home villages in China. This particular envelope has been stamped with the chop of the British Military Administration (BMA). The BMA was a temporary period when the British military occupied Singapore between 1945 and 1946 following the end of the Japanese Occupation.
