Jean-Paul Gaultier is known as fashion's enfant terrible for his experimental approach to design and presentation; he designed Madonna's cone bra and corset and sent men down the runway in long silk skirts. While Gaultier is better known as a couturier, his playful approach to fashion means that one can expect unconventional materials and silhouettes from his label. This track jacket made of scuba material is from Gaultier's late 1990s line, Soleil, which was known for its semi sheer pieces. The line was briefly made popular again in 2021 after celebrity Kendall Jenner was photographed in a dress from the Soleil line. Lionnel Lim bought this from the Gaultier shop in promenade, and was drawn to it for its unique material and style. Lim first worked as a fashion designer-cum-merchandiser for local and regional manufacturers and later switched to writing, styling and illustrating for newspapers and various publications . Lim’s style is driven by a preference for the strange and unusual.
