Dzojchen is a Singapore-born brand with an overseas presence. Founded by Chelsea Scott-Blackhall, Dzojchen released its first collection in 2012 and gained international attention after the late Chadwick Boseman wore its three-piece kimono suit for the Asian premiere of the Black Panther film in Seoul, and later appeared on the cover of Time Magazine wearing a Dzojchen bomber jacket. Other celebrities including Common, Ryan Gosling and Donald Glover have also worn Dzojchen.Lionnel Lim, Director of Society & Special Events at a+ magazine, first acquired this piece from a sample sale of Dzojchen pieces in 2014/2015, the same year Dzojchen launched the kimono suit that Boseman wore. He wore this piece in a photoshoot for an article published in 2017 in TODAY article titled “Friendship Rooted in Fashion”, which examined his personal style and his friendship with hairstylist Evande Loh. Lionnel Lim first worked as a fashion designer-cum-merchandiser for local and regional manufacturers and later switched to writing, styling and illustrating for newspapers and various publications . Lim’s style is driven by a preference for the strange and unusual, with pieces ranging from Walter Van Bierendonck to Jean Paul Gaultier’s Soleil Sol line.
