This groom's outfit was worn by members from two generations of the Aljunied family in Singapore. The Aljunieds are one of the prominent Hadhrami Arab Peranakan families in Singapore and the region. The outfit, comprising a jacket, pants and a fez, bears Ottoman and European influences. Such influences can also be seen in the ceremonial outfits donned by male members of Malay world royal families for studio portraits taken during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. These portraits could have served as stylistic references for the bride and groom as they are, according to Malay customs (adat), regarded as "raja sehari" ("king and queen for the day").Elaborate metallic thread embroidery decorate the collar, epaulets and cuffs of the jacket as well as trims down the outer lengths of the pants. The design features mostly intricate floral motifs with a large paisley motif on the back. The exquisite embroidery work was executed by Sharifah Noor Aljunied, known for her skill and talent.
