There were different costumes for different days of a traditional, multi-day Peranakan wedding. In Penang in the early 20th century, the bride and groom would be photographed in their 1st-day wedding robes outside the main entrance of their house. They would go to a studio for a picture in their 12th-day outfits. The bride here wears a kim suah sah (brocade robe) couched with gold thread, with a songket (brocaded) sarong. The groom wears a rather informal jacket and trousers, which is unusual.
