Translated as "Prayer XII/Homage to My Homeland," this print is one of A.D. Pirous's works that showcase prominently Acehnese and Islamic visual materials. A.D. Pirous is an Indonesian painter and printmaker whose works contribute significantly in the development of modernist and calligraphic abstraction in Indonesia. He is known for his calligraphy that largely draws from Qur'anic verses, Islamic manuscripts, and tombstones. The print specifically shows Pirous's interest in the manuscript tradition of Aceh as seen in the use of main colors, such as red, black, and white. His calligraphic writing is also structured to replicate the marginal commentaries that are often present in manuscripts and written in in a circular and non-uniformed manner.
