The six costumes are from the play, The Tragedy of Macbeth which was staged in an abandoned warehouse on Merbau Road (March 16-21, 23-28 - April 3, 1993). The production was also part of Young People's Theatre (March 16-20).Directed by William Teo, the Shakespeare tragedy was produced by his company Asia in Theatre Research Circus. The costumes here reveal Teo's fascination with inter-cultural elements. The materials and styles as for example, skirts made of Indian fabrics or Kimono robes show his approach to dressing his various characters. This play was staged in the same warehouse where he had produced The Conference of Birds (1991) - a play that signaled a turning point in his art. The following year Teo and his troupe participated in a month long workshop run by Georges Bigot, who was one of Ariane Mnouchkine’s actors.
