KF94 abbreviated from Korean Filter with its 94% efficiency in filtering airborne particles, is comparable to the American N95 mask, the gold standard for medical masks. The design with triangular top and bottom flaps for contouring around one’s face is known to give greater comfort and fit. Originally intended for medical protection, the design has trickled into mainstream fabric mask fashion and commonly referred to now as the “Korean shape” or the “Korean mask”. Most South Koreans from average citizens to celebrities and public figures are often seen in such disposable masks both on daily basis and at public appearances, indicating the mask’s utilitarian function and appeal across social classes. This mask is manufactured by Medi label produced by Kukje Pharma Co., Ltd, based in Korea. In times of mask shortage in Korea during the Covid-19 pandemic, Medi supplied masks to both the government hospitals and the community. Their masks are approved by the MFDS (Ministry of Food and Drug Safety) in Korea and FDA USA (Food and Drug Administration USA). These masks are also exported to US government agencies and other parts the world.
