Nap Jamir II was born in 1952 in Manila. He was introduced to photography by his photographer father.vThese are some of Nap Jamir II’s earliest works but also some of the earliest examples of conceptual photography in Southeast Asia. They investigate the relationship between the still and moving image, as well as the materiality of the photograph. Jamir’s conceptualism takes a deconstructionist bent, questioning the image and the broader discourses surrounding it.The Foto-Me series engages with a different aspect of post-modernism - the idea and status of the art object - by using photos from a commercial photobooth. The space within the photos move from within the booth to its outside by a ingenious use of mirrors and props. The other person in the work is filmmaker Amable “Tikoy” Aguilaz.
