These criollas are adorned with coral, a highly prized commodity known to be imported from Italy and the Mediterranean Sea. Red coral was valued in China and medieval Europe. These earrings reportedly belonged to the donor’s great-grandmother, Lina Ortaliz Montilla (1868-1939).
