This photographic studio portrait of a young European child seated on a rocking horse accompanied by a Chinese amah or servant was produced by Henry Schuren in Singapore. Schuren was a photographer who used Singapore as his base in Southeast Asia. He arrived in Singapore in September 1873 and opened a studio in the Hotel de l’Europe in October that year.
