This sherry glass is from the Europe Hotel, which was established as the Hotel de l'Europe in 1857. It later shifted to Beach Road and then to the Esplanade in 1865. It was rechristened the Grand Hotel de l’Europe, and finally renamed the Europe Hotel in 1918 after a change in ownership and was closed in 1933.This sherry glass belonged to Claude S. Oliveiro, who played the piano in a band which performed in the Europe Hotel from 1928 to 1933. He would play classical and dance music. His band would also play in the Sea view Hotel, Adelphi Hotel, Raffles Hotel and even at the Government House.
