Blocks 56 to 59 of Lengkok Bahru were built in 1966 right after independence. Today, its two-room flats are used as rental flats. At casual glance, the block is reminiscent of slab blocks with concrete parapet walls, common in other HDB flats. However, a closer look allows one to see that the corridor design is in fact made up of rectangular slabs offset at different regular distances, which produces an elegant and minimalist effect.
