Maung Htun Hla (1874-1946), later known as M T Hla was one of the first artists to travel widely through the countryside to creating paintings depicting familiar landscapes and portraits of different ethnic types within Myanmar. Sold primarily at the Smart and Mookerdum bookshop in Rangoon, these works were directed at a Western audience, keen to purchase souvenirs of their time in Myanmar.
