Gift of Lim Kok Lian in memory of his grandparents Lim Boon Keng and Grace Pek Ha Yin
This gold ring is connected to Dr Lim Boon Keng’s 1908 marriage to Grace Pek Ha Yin, whom he married following the death of his first wife in 1905. The ring is engraved with both their initials and the date of their wedding. Grace Yin was the sister of Dr S. C. Yin, with whom Dr Lim shared a medical practice. They had one son, Lim Peng Han, and a daughter, Ena Lim Guat-Kheng. One of the leading Peranakan activists in the early 20th century, Dr Lim Boon Keng was an advocate for educational and political reforms in both the Straits Settlements and China.
