This is a list of questions and answers administered for the Pengetahuan Agama Islam (Islamic Religious Knowledge, or IRK) paper as part of the Sijil Persekolahan Seberang Laut (Overseas School Certificate) between the years of 1958 to 1964 in the Perseketuan Tanah Malaya (Federation of Malaya). Prior to the 20th century, Islamic religious studies in Singapore and Malaysia were primarily restricted to classes organised in pondok (or informal religious classes often organised by a religious teacher) and nominal Quranic recitation classes held in Malay schools, though the latter were required to adhere to guidelines set by the colonial administration. In 1907, the first madrasah in Singapore, Madrasah Al-Iqbal, was established in Selegie road and signalled a change in the instruction of Islamic religious studies from being based on rote learning to that of discussion and debate. Pengetahuan Agama Islam (IRK) was introduced as a subject as part of the Sijil Persekolahan Seberang Laut (Overseas School Certificate) in the mid-20th century but was no longer administered in mainstream schools from 1989 onwards, as a result of declining enrolment and changing educational objectives.
