The proposed acquisition is a small periodical produced by the then-Department of Education's Malay Language department in 1953 (the Department of Education was eventually dissolved to form the present-day Ministry of Education in 1955). Entitled 'Taman Pengetahuan', after the eponymous 1904-1905 publication produced by Al-Ikhwan Press in Singapore, this recent publication knowingly built upon a history of Malay intellectualism cultivated by print as it consisted of articles relating to history, literature, current affairs, geography and so on. started in 1952, 'Taman Pengetahuan' (Warta Pejabat) sought to create a sense of fraternity amongst a growing community of Malay teachers as evinced in an article in the proposed acquisition. In addition to aiming to cultivate a broader intellectual curiosity amongst its desired target readers (teachers), the editor also requested for teachers to jointly contribute to the funding of the production of the magazine, as well as for teachers across all Malay schools in Singapore to be regular contributors.
