Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles established a British East India Company trading factory in Singapore in 1819. This letter was written to him in 1814 by Revd J. C. Supper, an early Christian missionary in Batavia, when Raffles was Lieutenant-Governor of Java. In it, Revd Supper describes Raffles’ support for Christian missionaries in Java and in particular for the London Missionary Society.
