This work is representative of Lim’s “London period” between 1958 and 1961 where he underwent academic training and developed his artistic repertoire through creative experiments. This work was done in the studio of the Chelsea School as part of his critical academic training. It demonstrates his technical competency in depicting the human body. The stiff posture, stern gaze of the sitter and portrayal of her body marks a shift from idealized images of the female form.
