These pews were originally from the Changi prison chapel which was built in the 1950s. In light of the increasing availability of air travel, many ex-Prisoners of War (POWs) interned in Changi had begun to make the trip back to Singapore. As they required a site for commemoration, a chapel was built within Changi prison that also served as a memorial to the POWs. 20 of these pews were donated by the Returned and Services League of Australia.
