This short-sleeved shirt was signed by members of the No. 10 Platoon, B Company, 2/30th Battalion, Australian Imperial Force in Wallgrove Army Base, which was a staging and training area during WWII. There are 16 signatures identified on the shirt, and it ostensibly belonged to Pte Arthur John Collett, one of the signatories, who died of wounds in the Cathay Building in Singapore on 16 February 1942. The 2/30th Battalion was formed on 22nd November 1940. On 14 January 1942, they were engaged in the first AIF attack against the Japanese. They subsequently fought in both Malaya and Singapore and were taken prisoner when the latter fell.
