Prior to establishing the British trading settlement on Singapore in 1819, Raffles was Lieutenant Governor of Java from 1811 to 1816. These coins were issued by Raffles in Java during this period, including the Silver Rupees of 1813, 1815 and 1816. They have been catalogued based on C. Scholten's listing in The Coins of the Dutch Overseas Territories 1601-1948.
