Globular jar

This globular jar with a rounded lip on the outer edge of its mouth, is covered with a white glaze that stops near the foot. Such globular jars were a popular vessel form and made at different Chinese kilns during the Song (960–1279) and Yuan (1279–1368) dynasties, and may have been used as containers for oils or ointments. Some featured small ring handles while others bore decorative motifs. The absence of ornamentation on this piece imbues it with a timeless appeal.
