This globular jar has a hard grey body and an uneven yellowish-green glaze, characteristic of high-fired glazed stoneware from Zhejiang province during this period. It has two ring handles set within panels of incised spiral motifs. The body of the jar is decorated with incised bands of parallel vertical lines. This decorative scheme is found on a range of wares at this time. Greenwares were probably fired in dragon kilns or 'longyao', which were introduced at this time in Zhejiang. Such jars were probably made when production of high-fired earthenware flourished.
