This globular jar is decorated with moulded floral motifs around the upper section and a band of lotus petals in the lower half of the body, and covered with a sea-green glaze. Jars with a squat, bulbous body were among the Longquan wares exported to Southeast Asia. The many extant examples found in Southeast Asia, coupled with the appearance of similarly shaped vessels among Thai ceramics, highlights the popularity of these Longquan jars. Small jars with narrow mouths were generally used to store precious substances such as cosmetics, perfumes, medicines and even magic potions.
