This green silk cheongsam has gold lace trimmings decorating its hem, collar and arm holes. Two chains of sequinned flowers make up the minimal decoration on the dress, along with a cluster of similar flowers on the lapel. The cheongsam is a form-fitting Chinese dress, which was worn by Peranakan women from the 1920s, following international fashions in Shanghai. They were favoured for special occasions like weddings and socialising outside the Peranakan home. This cheongsam belonged to Mdm Ong Siew Choo (1930-2012), a homemaker.
