The Namazie family was a prominent business family in Singapore, of Persian-Indian origin. Migrating to Singapore in the early 20th century, the well-known firm of Messrs MA Namazie and Sons was established by Mirza Mohamed Ali Namazie. One of his sons, MGH Namazie was married to the daughter of Sir Mirza Ismail, who was the Prime Minister (Dewan) of the Indian states of Mysore, Hyderabad and Jaipur. These ceremonial trowels were presented to him, at the laying of the foundation stones of the Town Hall building in 1934, the Dental Ward in 1938 and the Maternity Ward in 1940.
