Echoing the form of a traditional Chinese scroll, “Performance Journal Scroll” is a continuous 10m-long drawing that traces the arc of Jeremy Hiah’s performance art practice over the past two decades. Demonstrating dexterity with charcoal, this whimsical panorama is rendered in confident, solid outlines and shaded in rich gradations. Notable performances chronicled in this visual diary include “1 Die 1000 Grow”, “Coward”, “Metamorphosis”, “White Angel Crocodile” and “Man Eat Man” – each one a thoughtful response to the often-complex social systems seeking to organise the world.
