Solid teak display cabinet with sliding glass doors

This teak and glass display cabinet is predominantly made of teak, which is a type of hardwood commonly used for furniture in the tropics due to its durability, toughness and resistance to termites and insects. It comprises two parts -- the top part is one compartment with glass sliding doors, suitable for display of items, while the other part comprises shelves behind two swing doors. It is raised from the ground by four pencil-shaped legs, a style typical of 1960s furniture. The pencil-shaped legs are possibly influenced by the Scandinavian furniture of the same period. Like the Scandinavian furniture, display cabinets like this one focused on functionalism and durability, and would have been placed in the living room. This suggests that the local furniture makers were exposed to the Scandinavian style that had not only travelled to the Asian part of the world, but also gained appreciation amongst local consumers.
