This was a Chinese textbook printed by Shanghai Commercial press for Yang Zheng school, a Chinese school set up in 1905 to educate the children of Chinese immigrants.The local Chinese community placed a high emphasis on education and many chinese medium schools such as Yang Zheng school were established by local community leaders.Education materials for such schools were imported from China, which illustrates the desire of the local Chinese to follow closely the education model in China.
