Decorated with an abstract cuboid pattern, these beaded panels would have been interlaced to form vamps for a pair of slippers. Such footwear was known as kasot pinta, or twist slippers. Its popularity began in the 1950s following on from the introduction of open-toe slippers. This was made by Chong Kim Neo (1916-1972), who made beaded slippers and garments from her home as she did not own a shop.
