Postcard depicting Boat Quay and Singapore River

This postcard depicts a bustling Boat Quay with bumboats that helped to ferry goods amid the trading offices and godowns that were established along the river. Despite the new harbour set up in Tanjong Pagar in 1852, Boat Quay's shipping business continued right up to the early 1980s, with the cleaning up of the SIngapore River between 1977 and 1983. The High Street Centre, Supreme Court and the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall can be seen in the background.
