This birth certificate belonged to Mdm Yeo Ee Kuan, who was born in Singapore during the Japanese Occupation. Mdm Yeo was delivered at home on 15A Stanley Street by a well-known midwife, also with the family name of Yeo, at that time. The family previously resided on 8 Stanley Street before moving to number 15A after the family expanded. Mdm Yeo is the fifth of eight children in the family. Mdm Yeo is the descendant of a prominent Burmese Chinese family. Her grandfather, Yeo Cheow Kaw, was a renowned Chinese community leader in Rangoon (Burma) during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The elder Yeo was known for his philanthropic work, helping to set up schools back in his hometown of Xia Yang in Hunan Province, as well as Rangoon.
