In Sumba large double width cloths, known as hinggi, were worn by men wrapped around the waist, although they can also be worn draped or tied over the shoulders. Some cloths were produced in matching pairs to be worn as an ensemble. Hinggi with predominantly blue designs are known as hinggi kawuru while those with significant use of red dyes are known as hinggi kombu. Traditionally hinggi kombu were reserved for nobleman’s wear. This cloth displays rows of large deer with prominent antlers. These are surrounded by other small creatures and heirloom objects.
