Sarong

This blue-on-cream sarong features a kepala that consists of a classic pucuk rebung, or two rows of triangles; and a badan pattern made from recurring circular medallions of spindly birds and fish, interspersed with weaving vines and phoenixes. A man’s sarong, it would have been worn by Peranakans paired with a baju panjang. Many towns along Java’s northern coast were renowned for their batiks, and each region had its distinctive traditions. The blue-on-cream colour and spindly animals of this batik is typically associated with Lasem.
