Dust (Singapore Galaxy)

Dust (Singapore Galaxy) is based on a photograph of the night sky around Singapore. The seemingly random scattering of chalk dust is in fact a precise placement charting stellar distributions as depicted in the original astronomical photograph. In Chinese, the characters for ‘dust’ also refer to those who are socially underprivileged, and carry the additional meanings of the ordinary and mundane. Here, dust is vested with solemnity and divinity in its transformation into the limitless universe, mapping the infinitesimal traces of human existence onto the infinite.
