This repousse gold octagonal bolster end (bantal in Baba Malay) was a decorative end of a bolster. The central medallion in the middle of the bantal is a scene of people underneath a tree with a bird flying overhead. Auspicious Chinese motifs like scrolls, peonies and a horn decorate each segment of the octagon.Bolster and pillow ends were used as decorative pieces on the wedding bed. Pillow ends tended to be rectangular, while bolster ends were either circular or octagonal.
