This circular bolster end featuring foliage design, was embroidered in gold threads whose lustre had already faded. Bolster and pillow ends were used to decorate the bridal bed and throne. Malay embroidery was inspired by Chinese needlework and besides bolster ends, it was used to decorate clothings, hangings, and mats. Common motifs of Malay stitch work include foliage, birds, and vases of flowers.
