King George's "warm welcome home" circular letter sent to returnees from Japan.

A letter issued to ex-prisoners of war of the Japanese, in which George VI welcomes them home, expressing sympathy for their “heavy… suffering” at the hands of the Japanese and wishes them and their families “a full measure of happiness”. This artefact is part of the archive of James Steele, Royal Artillery (Field) who served in Malaya from January 1941-February 1942, when interned as a P.O.W at Changi until his release in October 1945.
