Loke Hong Seng (b. 1943) was working as a radio announcer with Radio Television Singapore in the 1960s when he picked up photography and subsequently grew to specialize in street photography. His images of 1960s and 1970s Singapore offer a candid view of everyday life in the early days of the nation’s development. This photograph shows a family passing by Circuit Road as they made their way to set up a stall at a pasar malam, the local night market. It shows how families found ways to earn a living in 1960s Singapore.
