Postcard depicting Night Market

Night markets were a common sight between the 1950s and 1980s. As the name indicates, the stalls in the market operate at night and the market is usually an open-air street market (it was also cooler to do outdoor shopping at night). In Singapore, night markets were often referred to as "pasar malam", lit. night market. These stalls would sell snacks, clothing, food and all sorts of knick knacks, and customers could haggle and get good bargains. Sometimes the night markets also offered kiddy rides and games, hence was a favourite spot with families. This postcard shows the type of shopping experience enjoyed by the locals during the 1970s.
