Malay instructional booklet in Mandarin titled National Language Lessons, Standard One (国语一号课程), published by the Institute of National Language and Culture

This instructional booklet teaches Chinese speakers the basics of the Malay language. It was published by the Dewan Bahasa Dan Kebudayaan Kebangsaan (DBKK), or Institute of National Language and Culture, which was established in 1960. This was part of the government’s larger initiative to promote Malay as the national language, as well as a Malayan culture. Besides publications, the DBKK also organised a National Language week, conferences for writers, competitions, exhibitions and cultural shows among other events to promote the national language.
