Because the Quran states that “we made everything alive from water” (surah 21:30), ewers carry great significance. Usually paired with a matching basin, ewers are used by Muslims to wash their hands before prayer and many other acitivities. Because of their durability, brass and bronze were commonly used to make ewers and other vessels to hold liquids.
